Netland is a micronation established in 2025 by James Daniel Marrs Ritchey for personal use purposes. This site is the primary website of the Government of Netland, though additional agency specific sites are also operated.
The country was founded January 1, 2025 by James Daniel Marrs Ritchey. Though it initially had no online presense. While some micronations are serious attempts to start new countries, most are short-lived jokes, hobbies, etc. Netland is somewhere inbetween. It is not intended to ever grow into a fully fledged nation with an economy, complete laws, or a population of citizens. However, it also is not a joke. It was created by James as a tool to potentially be of use in his hobbies. As such, it has a population of one, no physical land, and could disappear at any time.
As the founder of the nation, and sole citizen, James is technically the king of Netland. However, he prefers not to be addressed as such, unless it's important to be formal.
The country's official language is English. However, it's a Netlandian variant, which is primarily based on Canadian English, but also incorporates some use of French words, and character accents.
The Government of Netland operates several sLDs, allowing Netland to carve out its own little part of the web, much like larger nations do. The most notable sLD it operates is .gôv.net, which is reserved for Government of Netland use, with the exception of certain special 3LDs (third-level domain extensions). For example, the 3LD .roy.gôv.net, which is reserved for personal use by members of the royal family.
